2. Identity
Released in 2003, “Identity” is an American mystery thriller directed by James Mangold and written by Michael Cooney. The film takes inspiration from Agatha Christie’s 1939 novel “And Then There Were None”, weaving a suspenseful tale about ten strangers who become stranded at a secluded motel during a fierce storm. Isolated from the rest of the world, they start to be mysteriously killed one by one.
The story cleverly uses reverse chronology to introduce crucial events that occurred before the characters arrived at the motel, revealing key details at pivotal moments throughout the film. Parallel to this, a secondary plot unfolds involving a convicted murderer awaiting a critical verdict that will decide if he faces the death penalty for his crimes.
“Identity” was nominated for Best Action, Adventure, or Thriller Film and Best DVD Special Edition Release at the 30th Saturn Awards. Despite its nominations, it lost to “Kill Bill: Volume 1” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”, respectively.
