10. Zodiac
“Zodiac” is a 2007 American neo-noir mystery thriller directed by David Fincher, with a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. The film is an adaptation of Robert Graysmith’s non-fiction books “Zodiac” (1986) and “Zodiac Unmasked” (2002).
The story centers on the relentless hunt for the Zodiac Killer, a serial murderer who terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The killer taunted police and the public by sending letters, bloodstained clothing, and cryptic ciphers to local newspapers.
Despite extensive investigations, the case remains one of the most infamous unsolved crimes in U.S. history. Director Fincher, along with Vanderbilt and producer Bradley J. Fischer, dedicated 18 months to thorough research and investigation to portray the events accurately. Fincher predominantly used the digital Thomson Viper FilmStream Camera for shooting the film, while incorporating traditional high-speed film cameras for the slow-motion sequences depicting the murders.
