1. Mulholland Drive
“Mulholland Drive” is a 2001 surreal mystery film written and directed by David Lynch, featuring Naomi Watts and Laura Harring in leading roles. The story follows Betty Elms (Watts), an aspiring actress who has just moved to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big. She befriends a woman suffering from amnesia (Harring) after a car accident, and together they delve into the enigmatic and often dark corners of Hollywood.
Originally envisioned as a television pilot, the film was largely shot in 1999 with plans to develop it into a series, leaving the storyline open-ended. However, it was later transformed into a feature film that has been celebrated as one of Lynch’s masterpieces and is frequently cited among the greatest films ever made.
At the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, David Lynch was awarded Best Director (Prix de la mise en scène) for his work on “Mulholland Drive.” The film significantly boosted Naomi Watts’s career in Hollywood and marked the final feature film appearance of veteran actress Ann Miller.
